Dr Melanie Amarasooriya
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
I am a board-certified Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with comprehensive experience across the full range of orthopaedic conditions, with subspecialty expertise in hand and upper limb surgery. In addition to my trauma and general orthopaedic practice, I am a fellowship-trained Hand and Upper Limb Surgeon with microsurgical expertise, managing complex upper-limb injuries, reconstructive challenges, and complex wrist disorders.
From 2018 to 2024, I served as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at a number of government hospitals, including the National Hospital of Colombo. My clinical practice is underpinned by a strong academic foundation. I completed a PhD in Biomechanics at Flinders University where my research on upper-limb kinematics resulted in internationally cited, concept-defining publications.
